Union Square has teamed up with Sunnie, the Gen Z focused brand built by Reese Witherspoon&#8217;s media company Hello Sunshine, to launch something far bigger than a single book deal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Union Square and Sunnie coordinated this entire publishing program around a lifestyle, and it says a lot about where publishers think young readers are going next.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What Is Actually Being Launched<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Six Books and Dozens of Gift Products<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The partnership is not limited to one or two titles. Six books and more than twenty gift products are planned as part of this program. The goal behind all of it is creating thoughtfully designed analog inspired products meant to help Gen Z step away from their screens, follow their own curiosity, and approach life with more intention and creativity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That is an unusually specific mission statement for a publishing deal, but it reflects something real happening among younger readers right now.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The First Two Titles Arriving This Fall<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two books will kick off the program on October 6. Sunnie Pocket Playbook describes itself as a mood board for life broken into seven tiny curations. Sunnie Junk Journal invites readers to collage and collect all the wild, wonderful, and everyday pieces of their world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Union Square&#8217;s editorial director Amanda Englander and Union Square Gift editorial director Camaren Subhiyah led the acquisition, securing world rights through Cait Hoyt at CAA.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why Sunnie Is Betting on Physical Books<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This Is Not Sunnie&#8217;s First Move Into Publishing<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sunnie has been building toward this for a while. Just last December the brand launched a Gen Z focused book club called Sunnie Reads, sponsored by the fashion brand Coach. At the time Hello Sunshine&#8217;s VP of brand pointed to research showing that more than one in three Gen Z women find genuine community through book clubs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That insight seems to be driving this entire publishing program. Sunnie is not just trying to sell books. It is trying to build community around the act of reading and creating offline.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Going Beyond Books Into a Full Lifestyle Line<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Future titles in the partnership will expand into cooking and crafts, personal finance, and even a printed celebration of Sunnie&#8217;s digital zine. Journals, notebooks, decks, and other book adjacent merchandise are also part of the plan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Union Square&#8217;s senior vice president and publisher explained that the team wanted to capture the actual essence of Sunnie in physical form, helping spark curiosity that could reach Gen Z readers and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sunnie Is Building an In Person Presence Too<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From Online Community to Real World Events<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sunnie started as an entirely online first community, but Hello Sunshine has clearly been working to bring that energy into physical spaces. Earlier this month the brand kicked off a four part fan event series in Manhattan centered entirely around books and reading.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pairing that kind of in person programming with a major publishing partnership suggests Hello Sunshine sees real long term value in giving its digital community something tangible to hold, read, and gather around.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What This Partnership Signals for the Future of Publishing<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stories like this one matter beyond the specific brands involved.
