Baker Publishing Group Is Starting Something Special for Young Readers<\/span><\/h1>\n

Last year a friend of mine told me she spent three weeks searching for a good Bible story book for her five year old. She found plenty of options but nothing that felt truly made with intention. That conversation stuck with me and when I came across this announcement from <\/span>Baker Publishing Group<\/b><\/a> I immediately thought of her.<\/span><\/p>\n

Baker Publishing Group is launching a brand new children’s imprint called Seed and Sparrow. It opens in March 2027 and from everything shared so far it looks like the kind of project that was built with real purpose behind it.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Story Behind the Name Seed and Sparrow<\/span><\/h2>\n

Andy McGuire is leading editorial at Seed and Sparrow and he took time to explain where the name actually came from. In the Bible Jesus described seeds as a picture of God’s Word growing inside a person’s heart. McGuire wanted that image to live at the core of every single book this imprint puts out.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their tagline is sowing seeds of faith in little hearts and it captures the whole idea in one sentence. This is not a publishing house trying to ride a wave. It is a group of people who believe that what a child reads before age eight shapes who they become and they want to be part of that in a meaningful way.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jesse Myers who leads Baker Publishing Group shared the same heart. He wants Seed and Sparrow to become the first name parents think of when they want a book that genuinely draws their child toward God and toward Scripture. That kind of clarity of purpose is something you do not see every day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eleven Books Landing in the Very First Year<\/span><\/h2>\n

Seed and Sparrow is coming out with 11 picture books and board books in its opening year. Children from birth through age eight can enjoy these titles. After that first year the imprint plans to add between 9 and 12 new books every year going forward.<\/span><\/p>\n

That tells you something important. This is not a rushed project. Someone sat down and mapped out a real long term plan and that kind of thinking usually shows up in the quality of what gets published.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Woman Behind the Very First Title<\/span><\/h2>\n

Tara Leigh Cobble is writing the first book for Seed and Sparrow. The title is The Joy Storybook Bible Where Kids Discover God’s Heart and it arrives in March illustrated by Sarah Joy Kvam.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cobble is the person behind the Bible Recap podcast which grew into one of the most followed Christian podcasts in the country. Her book The Bible Recap for Kids recently became the first children’s title in the history of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association to win Christian Book of the Year. That is a milestone that had never happened before.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her new book grows out of the same idea that made her 2020 title so beloved. The conviction that Jesus is where the joy is reached millions of adult readers and now she is bringing that same truth into the hands of the youngest children in a family. That feels like exactly the right move at exactly the right time.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Book That Talks About Something Most Books Skip<\/span><\/h2>\n

Goodbyes Are Hard is written by Sissy Goff with illustrations by Silvia Provantini and it comes out in April. The subject matter alone sets it apart from most children’s books on the market.<\/span><\/p>\n

Grief is something children experience but rarely have language for. Most books leave that space empty. This one steps into it and offers a gentle honest message that God meets children right in the middle of their sadness and shows up with comfort that catches them off guard in the best way.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sissy Goff and her husband David Thomas work as Christian parenting counselors. Their recent book Capable landed on the New York Times bestseller list and their podcast Raising Boys and Girls has become a regular part of life for thousands of Christian parents. They understand children and families in a way that comes through in everything they create.<\/span><\/p>\n

Noah Like You Have Never Quite Seen Him<\/span><\/h2>\n

Glenys Nellist wrote Half a Boat Wont Float A Noah’s Ark Tale and Carolina Farias illustrated it. This one also arrives in April and it takes the story of Noah in a direction that is warm, funny and surprisingly moving all at once.<\/span><\/p>\n

The heart of the book is the idea that God gives every person a unique calling and then provides everything that person needs to actually follow through on it. For a young child that is a genuinely encouraging thing to carry around.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nellist has been writing children’s books for years. She has more than 40 titles published and they have sold over 1.2 million copies altogether. She has a way of making stories feel effortless while quietly placing something meaningful inside them and this book carries that same quality.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why This Launch Feels Different From the Rest<\/span><\/h2>\n

Faith based families have been asking for better options in children’s publishing for a long time. The need is real and the shelves have not always kept up with it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Seed and Sparrow is not trying to fill every gap at once. It is starting to focus with strong writers, a clear sense of purpose and a pace that suggests the people behind it are thinking years ahead rather than quarters ahead. That combination does not come together often and when it does it tends to produce something worth paying attention to.<\/span><\/p>\n

March 2027 is still several months away but Seed and Sparrow already feels like one of the more thoughtful launches this space has seen in a while.<\/span><\/p>\n
